If you find an injured or dead turtle, contact the Sea Turtle Assistance & Rescue (STAR) network here in the USVI. STAR is a collaboration of NGO’s, territorial and federal agencies, veterinarians, and community volunteers. These groups joined together to help injured sea turtles, as well as collect and disseminate information on stranded turtles, in order to better protect these marine animals. STAR relies on many community volunteers, local veterinarians and other donated resources. The most important participant in STAR, however, is YOU! Please call the hotline at (340) 690-0474 to report any entrapped, disoriented, sick, injured, or dead sea turtle. Taking note of this. What about other injured animals such as birds? Where do I call?

Rosemary,
Any sick or injured wildlife should first be directly reported to the national park, (340)776-6201 or (340) 693-8950 x222. We have contact numbers for a few local veterinarians and/or wildlife rescuers to help coordinate care on wounded wildlife or we can do it internally. Care really depends on many factors but some of the essential decisions are made from species, cause of injury, severity of injury, likeliness of survival with human intervention, and available resources.
